LIVEFORLOVE Fundraiser for Afghanistan

Interview

LIVEFORLOVE Fundraiser for Afghanistan

We spoke to Will Wallace, one of the organisers for LIVEFORLOVE's fundraiser for Afghanistan in Peckham next week. Here's what he had to say...

1. You’ve been organising a fundraiser happening tomorrow (Fri 3rd Sep) in Peckham, can you tell us a bit about what the fundraiser is for?

We are fundraising for two wonderful charities: Afghanaid who are mobilising materials and staff to prepare to deliver emergency support to families whose lives have been destroyed or uprooted by the recent conflict, and Safe Passage who support lone child refugees that are looking to reunite with their families.

2. Who’s organised this event?

The core team in terms of the organisation are: Hannah Ford, Joe Briel and Jess-Luisa Flynn, and myself (William Wallace). With the extremely talented Alex Gardner on all the design work, however it’s been a big team effort, as well as so many others who have been providing support – big up Prime Direct Distribution, Solo Sound, Coffee&Cocktails, Peckham Audio, Distrikt, Fran Hales, Christian Cometa and Robin Clyfan.

3. How did it come about?

I was actually planning another event there - Jelly Legs - but we switched it up pretty last minute to a LIVEFORLOVE fundraiser event, a bit of a squeeze pulling it together in a short space of time but we’ve been doing our best!

4. The first part of the evening is a series of talks at Coffee and Cocktails on Rye Lane with some music as well, can you tell us a bit about what people can expect here, and who is speaking?

We have some incredible guest speakers: Beth Gardiner CEO of Safe Passage, Kitty Chevallier from Afghanaid, Shukrullah Ludin founder of Labour Friends of Afghanistan, Gulam Nabi a refugee who was a key member of the Afghan community in Calais, and a member of the Kabulletins who are a group of people who have worked with the British Embassy Kabul and Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand Province for over 20 years.

After that we have some great DJs: Babyschön b2b Rohan Rakit (both from Daytimers), Lulah Francs b2b Demi Riquisimo, and Meg Paine b2b Tech Support.

5. This is followed by a club night at Peckham Audio. What acts have you got lined up for us, and what kind of music will they be playing?

Yeah we’ve got even more b2bs downstairs in the club from 11pm:  Secretsundaze b2b Shy One, LUXE b2b Adam Pits, Mi-El b2b DJ Winggold, Tasha b2b Watson (FYI Chris). It’s a very eclectic line up of artists and all of the back to backs have never happened before (I think!), I’m not actually sure what to expect!  Head down and let's find out!
