Deep Cuts is a new kind of music journalism feature that we have developed over the last 3 years, an attempt to loosen things up (sorry) in music journalism, and share the diverse ways we experience music.
Each article has a theme and prompt question, and gathers responses from a variety of writers, DJs and musicians. Each article comes with also comes with an artwork (courtesy of Trav), a mix combining music from each of the article’s contributions, and a playlist gathering all Spotify-able music mentioned.
Contributors write about music they really like, in whatever voice feels right. Descriptions of experiences with or around the music, transcriptions of discussions about it, stories (true or imagined) of the music itself, quotes / artworks / mixes that says what they want to say, whatever they want.
Below are links to the articles (just click on the title) that we have published, gathered in chronological order along with their artworks. We also organised a socially distanced deep cuts event in September with themed DJ sets and live art responses which you can read about/listen to here.
