COMMODO (Deep Medi/Black Box)
An artist with minimal online presence and who keeps himself to himself, Commodo is one of an increasingly rare few who make waves through the strength of their music alone. He builds bass-focussed beats with soul and substance that never perpetuate a formula, distancing himself from contemporaries with ingenious sampling and sound design influenced by his long-time affinity with the vibrancy of hiphop. Regardless of whether it’s the tough, dread-pressurised bassweight of his dancefloor-leaning productions or the tonally rich and immersive qualities of his more cerebral work, his scrupulous studio techniques are evidenced by the resounding freshness and longevity of his tracks both new and old. His inherently unique and accomplished production style earned him recognition right from the outset of his ascendancy and garnered early attention from a host of key figures within the dubstep community; finding a natural home for his music at the bastion of low frequency excellence, Deep Medi Musik.
Having already accumulated a gem-laden discography, there is undoubtedly much more to come from Commodo. The accolades keep rolling in; he has twice had music featured on the seminal mix series ‘Dubstep Allstars’, twice won ‘Best Remix’ at Dubstepforum’s 2013 Awards with his interpretation of the Medi classic ‘Miracles’, received worldwide radio play and bookings across Europe and the U.S. and, closer to home, has duppied dancefloors at DMZ, Subdub/Exodus, FWD>> and System. It’s shaping up to be an exciting future for a guy who will continue to challenge himself musically, explore new BPMs and aesthetics, innovate and cement his reputation as one of the UK underground’s best-regarded producers.
ROMMEK (Loose Lips/Weekend Circuit)
Loose Lips resident. Only 21 years of age, we have been impressed by his productions for almost 6 years now! Especially in the last year, he has matured into one of the most exciting young techno producers in London.
His latest vinyl releases on Weekend Circuit, No Logo and his digital outputs on ARTS, Sonntag Morgen and Labrynth were supported by artists such as Developer, Rebekah, François X and Arnaud Le Texier. The remix of Adriana Lopez on his Thought Patterns EP was played twice during DJ Deep's Boiler Room!
As a DJ, his sets are always unique and engaging. Recent appearances in clubs such as Baby Club, Motion, Corsica Studios and Crucifix Lane wet the appetite for his Sheffield-debut. Rommek is also resident of Dazed & Confuzed, another respected underground institution in London.
Utah? has just had his first release out on Symbols, his tunes have been played out by Toddla T, Plastician, Wen, Dusk and Blackdown, Flava D and Mickey Pearce.
His music has featured on Rinse FM, 1xtra and Radio 1.
MEDALLION MAN (Loose Lips/Hoxton FM)
Medallion Man is co-founder and resident of Loose Lips. He started playing on the radio, developing an unique take on experimental and electronic music. Animating several shows on different stations during the last years, he regularly offers listeners 2 hours of varied sounds.
His current project is with Hoxton FM in which his Loose Lips show invites artists for guest mixes and interviews on a weekly basis. He has previously held residencies with the likes of Seminor Lab, Pulse Production and plays regularly in clubs such as Corsica Studios and The Egg, whilst maintaining a regular presence at South West events.
SMODI (District Sound)
A young producer with a forthcoming EP entitled 'Guava' featuring remixes from grime legends Spooky and Youngstar on London label District Sound. His productions have received regular support from DJs across the board including Logan Sama, ScoreFive, Slackk, Murlo and many more. Except to hear a lot of unreleased music.
