Basement line-up (Techno):
DJ BILLY NASTY (Tortured/Electrix)
From the man who mixed the inaugural volume of the seminal ‘Journeys By DJs’ series, gaining him entry into the Guinness book of records for being the first DJ to produce a commercially available mix CD, we still find Mr. Nasty at the helm, box of records at his feet, doing what he has done best for the last quarter of a century.
But Billy Nasty has never been just a DJ, he has enjoyed an extensive recording career and runs two record labels highly-regarded by a broad range of DJs and record buyers alike. With a career spanning 25 years, Billy continues to travel the world as one of the most in-demand DJs, lighting up dancefloors at some of the most prestigious events and infamous clubs across the globe.
From early beginnings playing rare groove and funk to his first forays into acid house during his residency at London’s The Brain Club, to regular slots at seminal London clubs such as Final Frontier, Open All Hours, The Drum Club and Strutt, to having played pretty much every Festival and club worth mentioning ever since, Billy continues to DJ the world over whilst also maintaining a residency with esteemed electronic pioneers BLOC.
On top of his DJing, Billy Nasty has also maintained a strong production presence over the years. Earlier more progressive outings included Shi-Take (with Dave Wesson) or Vinyl Blair (with Chemical Brothers engineer Steve Dub) to his studio collaborations with Gregor Tresher and Anthony Rother on Datapunk, culminating in his current partnership with Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive) man as RadioNasty.
In 2013 Billy relaunched his legendary techno and electro imprints, Tortured and Electrix, to critical acclaim. The debut release on Tortured was the RadioNasty ‘Breakin Bad EP’, featuring two stunning Ben Sims remixes as well as two original tracks.
As RadioNasty the pair have unleashed several tracks over the last two years for labels such as Craig Richard’s The Nothing Special and EPM including the (relaunched) Tortured debut release 'Breakin Bad' EP and the 'Clave to the Rhythm' EP on Electrix. The guys were last seen disappearing into the studio bunker, planning the next slew of releases and collaborations, set to emerge over the coming year.
ROMMEK (Loose Lips/Weekend Circuit)
After headlining Loose Lips 002, it is a pleasure to now have him as a resident.
Despite only being 21 years old, we have been amazed by his productions for almost 6 years now. Especially in the last few years, his sound has matured hugely, making him into one of the most exciting young techno producers in London.
With recent vinyl releases on No Logo & Weekend Circuit and digital releases with Labrynth, Sonntag Morgen and B55, we can safely say that our sentiment is shared by many. Support from Developer, Francois X and Arnaud le Texier to only name a few, is the greatest compliment to the commitment exuded by Rommek over the last few years. Adriana Lopez's remix on his Thought Patterns EP being played twice on DJ Deep's boiler room a few months ago was a strong signal of this backing.
As a DJ, his sets are both unique and engaging. Recent sets at Motion, Corsica and Crucifix Lane wet the appetite for all his future residential appearances at Loose Lips. To top this off, he has recently secured a residency at Dazed & Confused, another very reputable underground techno night in London.
DADDY LONG LEGS (Off Me Nut) - LIVE
Daddy Long Legs, a 'cat obsessed acid weirdo' in his own words, is a man of many musical styles. Playing everything from jungle and break core to 80s, synthpop, acid and electro, Tom will be providing us with a live set to finish off the night in the basement!
His most recent Porno EP on Off Me Nut has been received brilliantly, pulling in interest from various corners. It is no surprise that his diverse range of productions have gained him up an up-and-coming release in America and more work with Titch at Off Me Nut. This is also reflected in his bookings with previous stand-out performances at Boomtown and Tramlines, with future sets lined up at Balter and Bangface! Having recently supported the likes of Ceephax, Slipmatt and Bong-Ra, it is an absolute pleasure to have him at Loose Lips 005!
BEAUX (Reprezent/District Sound)
20 year old DJ hailing from South London, 1/2 owner of District Sound Recordings, Friday night resident DJ on Reprezent Radio and monthly Resident for Balamii. You can expect a forward thinking techno set with a heavy emphasis on progression through sound.
RAMALLEY BOMB SQUAD (Them Flavours)
2014 was an exciting year for Ramalley Bomb Squad, or Tim Coleman to his mum.
Fabric, Corsica Studios, Ministry of Sound and many other smaller venues across London felt the full force of his trademark visceral blend of music. Fusing early rave, hardcore and electro with contemporary pummelling techno, it'll be a treat to have him play for us in the basement. Gutsy and well-read in the Dark Arts of dance music history, he is not afraid to tantalise a dancefloor with the odd classic house tune or dynamite dancefloor curveball as the crowds at his XOYO residency know well by now. Things are no quieter in his production schedule, with plays on Rinse FM and a remix for Chicago based label 'Them Flavors' already this year. Tim is undoubtedly one to watch.
MEDALLION MAN (Loose Lips/Hoxton FM)
Co-founder of Loose Lips. Playing a wide variety of electronic/experimental music, Medallion Man (aka Freddie Sugden) first started DJing on radio. Having hosted shows on various stations throughout the last few years, he regularly provides listeners with two hours of the finest selection of tunes. His current project is with Hoxton FM, having just landed a show based on Loose Lips. Check it out, starting every Wednesday 5-7pm from the 4th Feb for regular Loose Lips guests, interview and general madness. He has held residencies with Seminor Lab and Pulse Productions, plays regular gigs at London's top venues such as Egg and Ministry of Sound, whilst also being a regular presence at South West events. Recent sets at Corsica studios and Stuck In Trafik have especially stood out. Running Loose Lips now provides another avenue for him to express his musical interests.
Circula is a producer from Totnes, currently residing in Berlin. Driven by the influece of jazz and funk coming from far and wide, he makes a variety of music where only one comparison can be drawn - big beats and meaningful bass lines. Part of the devon sound-system Groundvibes/G.V smooth, he draws his second influence from having his head in the sub-bins and experiencing music as true as it can sound from a big rig.
Circula has had a handful of releases in the past, however the best is very much yet to come. Expect big things in 2015 and onwards!
BOBBY PLEASURE (2020Vision)
London based DJ, record collector and noise maker.
Resident of road to nowhere who run the Labyrinth area at SGP and will have an area at Gottwood this year.
Label manager of Leeds based 2020Vision records, which celebrated 20 years in the game last year.
SERIOUS BLACK b2b TONY MUSTARD (Shibui Festival)
These two Shibui Festival residents have been playing a selection of Boogie-Funk, Disco & Northern Soul in working mens clubs across the country for what seems a hot minute now. So put on your glad rags and prepare to move in a rhythmical style and fashion.
GOLESWORTHY (Loose Lips/Groove Points)
Not much needs saying here. Loose Lips resident and the man behind Groove Points in London and Housework in Bristol!! We could write a description of his history and amazing sets for every party we throw...but if you've been down to the previous Loose Lips, you'll have seen for yourself what an amazing DJ he truly is! And if you haven't, then you have no excuses not to come to this one. Without a doubt, one of the most cultured and versatile DJs we've ever seen play!
DIJON WATSON b2b DANBE (Groundvibes)
Dijon Watson is a man of excellent taste, both in music and mustard. Having only started producing and DJing under this alias at the end of 2014, he has already put out Can't Cut the Mustard' (https://2straws.bandcamp.com/), a 4 track album of the very highest quality. Having grown up with a more traditional musical background, he first indulged in electronic music via Groundvibes, a Devon-based collective well represented in the bar at this event. An up-and-coming project called '2straws' between him and Circula is sure to further entrench those ties. And with this to be the first time he's played with DanBe since his recent move to Berlin, get ready for some real passion from behind the decks!
Ever since starting Loose Lips, we've been desperate to have Dan play. Playing records with such affection, he has really started to flourish in the last year. He plays and produces the finest selection of House & Techno, often with an afro-beat influence throughout. As well as a major part of Groundvibes, he has recently landed Vivify and Lightworks residencies, regularly playing alongside the likes of Phil Weeks, Sub-Ann and Lee Burridge. With a new mix out soon on the Lightwork selection series and his own night starting up in Devon, he's a man to keep your eye on.
ROLY (Warm & Sleazy)
DJ / Producer / one half of 'sounds like a bird' (previously 'Warm & Sleazy'), who held an apocolyptic get down in a disused nuclear bunker on the cliffs of somewhere in Devon. Has recently moved to Bristol in order to get his fingers into some of the musical pasties the Westcountry city has to offer. Never one to over expose himself, Roly plans to patiently linger in the murky sidelines of Bristols music scene, practicing his craft into hazey hours of the morning.
Expect an eclectic mix of party starters, stoppers and trips.
So many DJs, so much fun to be had! See you on the 27th March.
Keep your Loose Lips!
