What’s up friends and listeners! This is sunday jams editor, decaff drinker and general softie Will Soer stepping up to cover the feature for the week. Nana’s current jams follow the theme of online recommendations, so that is one reason I’ve sharing the track above; my friend Tem (whose Freedom of Groovement radio show is fantastic) sent me a compilation named Aquanaut in Room. He listens to a lottt of music from a lottt of different countries, this compilation came from a record label in Beijing named Merrie Records 美丽唱片, which was only founded in 2019. The compilation has a few tracks that would make sense for my Out Of Body Pop shows, kind of fka twigs-esque headzone bops, but the track that stuck out to me is totally different, it’s light and airy and warm, no vocals or distinction between verse and chorus, it’s got a kind of House-y progression but it doesn’t sound electronic or sampled at all, just gorgeously sharply produced and recorded.
I love music like this that kind of blurs the lines of instrumental music, tweaking it and purifying it into a kind of audio butter, perfect to spread over your Sunday bread. I was just listening to this podcast episode where the host describes spiritual experiences through the metaphor of bread, in that bread is warm and alive and it expands as it cooks, spreading positivity outwards, I’d say that’s how this track feels for me. Aside from Tem recommending it, it just feels like the ideal kind of music to listen to on a Sunday in lockdown, gazing out of the window fostering excitement and hope within one’s self.
