This incredible 11m 30s psychedelic, ambient journey was inspired by, and draws from Leonidas and Kay Suzuki's Ayahuasca experiences (one of them during a tropical thunder-storm in the Colombian Amazon).
This collab from two of London's finest analogue producers will be available on vinyl for the first time from November 25th. You can pre-order here - http://burnin.fr/album/synqlock-vol-ii-2
Japan born and London-based producer/DJ Kay Suzuki has been heavily involved in London’s diverse club scene since 2004. Debuting in 2007 on CO-OP label he has been releasing remixes, re-edits & original productions on several labels across the globe. He also launched his own label Round In Motion in 2010, which has been releasing vinyl from multiple artists from London, and received support from established DJs and producers such as David Mancuso, Gilles Peterson, Francois Kevorkian, Theo Parrish and Laurent Garnier! Round In Motion’s catalogue was given the prestigious privilege of being archived in The British Library in London on 2014.
Kay was part of the trio who set up audiophile Japanese restaurant Brilliant Corners in 2013. From 2016, he was back in the music industry in full swing and has now released 4 records in 2017.
As a DJ, Kay has been invited to numerous cities in Europe and Asia for the past decade. His curation for Art of The Mixtape was championed by Mixcloud and earned him to play at Dimensions Festival on 2017. His dance floor sets carry the impression of an atomic collision of funk/jazz-infused energy with an electronic severity that you just can’t quite locate – a combination that has proven irresistible for dance floors repeatedly.
Leonidas has had a love affair with music since he was 4, started DJing at 15, and then organising his own parties a year later.
He was one of the first DJs to mix jazzy and funky house alongside jazz-funk and disco in mid 90s Soho, holding residencies at Mondo, Freedom Bar and later The Player and Match Bar. Other residencies have included “Up” - a gay/mixed house night at Whitechapel’s Rhythm Factory in the early 00s and countless events and house parties, including 3-4 New Years extravaganzas in Scottish castles in the early-mid 00s.
More recently he has guested at Beauty and the Beat, and Brilliant Corners, held a residency at pop-up cocktail bar Peckham Springs and has been putting on his own lovetoparty events using his audiophile sound system.
Leonidas has been experimenting with various synths, drum machines and guitars since he was a teenager and with music production tools since the 90s. Debut release “Sequential EP” came out on Kay Suzuki’s Round In Motion label in 2012 and was followed up with a collaboration with Kay on house EP “Synqlock vol I” a year later. Both EPs won plaudits among respected musicians and DJs such as Manuel Gottsching, Theo Parrish and Pepe Bradock, as did his 2 UK house EPs with collaborator and label owner Hobbes - (“Machines, Tapes & Electronic Setups” and “Mo Machines”) both receiving club DJ and media plaudits, with airtime on BBC Radio One. He has also released 2 re-edit 12”s on his own lovetoparty label.
Leo’s 2017 productions on YAM Records and Hobbes music have been praised by a broad range of DJs, among them Greg Wilson, Bill Brewster, Nancy Noise, Cedric Woo, and Andy Blake, reflecting his broad musical taste and appeal. He has a forthcoming release on legendary label 2020 Vision, with arguably the label’s most exciting recent signing, Dokta & Leonidas - Baby Powder.
